I interned at Little Guys Games (LGG) as a Game & Level Designer in the Summer of 2024, after which my contract was extended for two months. I was assigned to the Endless Night team, working alongside five other people.
Endless Night: The Darkness Within is a 2.5D action-platformer with a focus on a psychological narrative of the main character. It's set to release in Q3 2025, as a result I'm limited to what I can show but below you can see a generalized list of my responsibilities.
Developed and designed two levels within the game. One that was more narrative heavy and completely linear, and the other level was designed to be more of a metroidvania layout. I worked on both levels through all stages of development, although I wasn’t able to finish the second level greybox within my time at LGG.
Pitched four puzzle concepts to the team with detailed sequential diagrams. One of which was implemented, allowing me to iterate on it alongside the team.
Redesigned and crafted the hub area layout to incorporate a section for user generated content. I did some light modelling in Blender and used the terrain tools in Unity.
Pitched a concept for the game's introductory gameplay sequence.
Presented detailed feedback on the first two levels that were far along in development, illustrating my ideas with various diagrams.
Worked with the narrative designer on the narrative beats of my first level.
Pitch ideas early and often, communicating them in an engaging and accessible manner.
Push yourself to learn new things even when you think you have the necessary knowledge for the task at hand. It keeps the work fun and engaging while possibly providing resources that can help support your decisions when presenting them.
Daily check-ins are crucial for ensuring an efficient development process, while also creating opportunities to get help and inspiration from your teammates.
